February in Peru

February in Arequipa is carnival month! It is packed full of water balloon fights, valentines day banquets, and carnivals. The church I go to has a jovenes (youth) banquet so we decided to take the girls to get their nails done. It was a lot of fun. The manicures and the banquet. They reserved a private room in the Plaza (the main town square), had a nice dinner, played some games, sang worship songs, and had a good ole time. Valentines Day here is like no place I have ever heard of. It is basically a whole state of water fights! Water Balloons, buckets of water, water hoses, cups of water, basically however you can get your hands on water will work. So the water fights are the whole month. But the main day is February 14th. They are everywhere! I got hit with a water balloon walking to New Hope from church and then literally drenched with 2 buckets of water when walking home. Carnival month here is the equivalent to Marti Gras in New Orleans. Arequipa is primarily Catholic so they are getting all their crazies out before lent. It is a crazy good time that I can't wait to be over! Ha.
